Our Outreach Day at Falkirk Tryst has become an annual event and huge thanks to Ewan Forgie and his fellow members for supporting this event so well. Despite the forecast, we had a great turnout of over 40 this year and even got a dry day for it. Prayer works!
With 11 groups on the course playing as teams in a better ball format, it allowed me to spend time with each group and chat with everyone, which was an essential change from last year. I spent about a hole with each team offering some tips where required, and just getting to know everyone a bit better was great. I originally thought I’d only be out on the course for a couple of hours but I think it was more like 3. Some good conversations about LGMS with Christians and Non-Christians showed that everyone was happy to support the event and also future events. I was even invited to go along to another golf event and speak the next year which I thought was really encouraging, especially when I was told the mix of believers to non-believers was 50/50. It’s very similar to Falkirk and these are the days we want to be involved in.
We did get a heavy shower later in the day but I’m sure the last group had just finished. As we sat down to a tasty meal we were aware of the time getting on and didn’t want to keep everyone back too long, so we had our Prizegiving while the last groups ate. I was privileged to talk to everyone as a group to finish off and I shared my most recent story of how being in two minds can cause problems not only on the course but off it too. I also read some verses from James and Proverbs and felt this was right as it confirmed the troubles of the ‘double minded’ along with the easy way to correct it – involving God more to keep our path straight. I was encouraged by some feedback afterwards so it must have come across the way I’d intended, more encouraging and less judging.
We look forward to more of these events at other venues also and I look forward to the opportunities that will present themselves in the near future.
Yours in Christ,
Vincent Brown, Logos Golf Ministries Ambassador to the Tartan Tour
