PGA Stableford at Western Gailes

Another cracking day for the PGA Stableford at Western Gailes, and with just a light breeze present, very unusual for this venue.
When I woke up that morning, I didn’t feel 100% but couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was. I knew when I started swinging something was off, but I made the best of it and was just glad of a nice day.

I was playing with one of my old colleagues whom I’ve known for 25 years, but sadly, he is not interested in what we do. He has been to a Logos Event before, but doesn’t go there with any chat of faith.
As we got started, there was the usual talk of family and friends, but not a peep about my work. It’s always disappointing when there is no meaningful chat, but sometimes there’s nothing you can do when there is no interest.
The PGA starter had asked me how things were going as we stood on the tee, and I quickly explained our Outreach days this year, but this led to no further enquiry from the group.

Despite not feeling fully fit, I was able to get to the 10th in 2 over and hit a really good drive on 11. When I walked up to hit my second, I was expecting to be well up the fairway but couldn’t see my ball. Eventually, I noticed a speck just off the fairway in the heather, and it was disappointing not to have a proper shot, and not sure how it got there.
I ended up making double bogey, and this knocked the stuffing out of me. I ended up dropping a few more shots coming in, and I didn’t seem to have my usual never-give-up attitude. I think this was definitely due to feeling a bit off, and I’m sure I’d have finished better had I been 100%.

One of the positives to the day was meeting up with someone I haven’t met for a while, and we agreed to have a one-on-one chat this coming week. He attended our first Pro-am at Dundonald and it will be interesting what he remembers from the day and where he’s at now.

When I got home and told my wife how I felt during the day, she told me that I hadn’t drunk a lot of water that week and was probably dehydrated.
This wasn’t something I had considered, but she did have a point. Anyway, she’s now got me on magnesium and omega 3 supplements with a minimum of a litre of water a day. Needless to say, I’m feeling much better.
