SPGA Championship at Scotscraig

The Scottish PGA Championship was held at the Open Qualifying course of Scotscraig Golf Club. I’m disappointed to say that I’ve only played this course once, and it was quite a long time ago in a Pro-am when I was an assistant.

Needless to say, I didn’t really remember much about it apart from a select few holes, and due to work constraints, I was unable to get a practice round. It would’ve helped had I done so.

I was playing with two other fellow ‘seniors’, and we had not played with one another in about 20 years.
It was good to chat about our journeys since then, and very early on, I was asked about (Logos Golf Ministries Scotland), LGMS, and what it does. I was able to explain our role and our faith, and this led to me asking about their beliefs. None of the two had any faith as such, but as we played through the front 9, I was able to explain about the evidence for Christianity and why it’s so compelling.
I mentioned that watching The Chosen on Amazon Prime Video would give a more dramatized version of the gospel, but it would be worth a watch. At least one of them said he might do that.

I hadn’t played particularly well but hung in there anyway. It was important to try and finish well, and the back 9 was at least passable. I hadn’t realised how much of this course I’d forgotten, and it was tricky to say the least.
During the course of the day, I did manage to briefly catch up with a fellow believer who is keen to get an event organised up North. Although nothing is yet in place, I know we can get something sorted next year, and even if it’s a smaller event, it will be a start. Not an accident.

SPGA Championship at Scotscraig Day 2

On the second day, I was playing with the same group and was hoping for a slightly better showing.
The guys didn’t mention anything else about LGMS, and it was a quieter day on the conversation front. You tend to find that’s the case when you are playing with the same group on the second day.
I was, however, playing better but not really scoring better, and this was another result of not being fully prepared.

I’ve now been able to free my time up a little going forward, which means more time for golf and visiting Pros at their clubs.
A little late for this event, but the plan going forward will include better preparation on all fronts. Answered prayer.

Before I left, I bumped into a young man whom I’ve played with a few times this year. He’s never said anything to me about my faith and has not expressed much interest, but I heard he has a job lined up in New Zealand for the winter, and I wanted to wish him well, which he was thankful for.
My Aunt and Uncle live near where he’s going, and I said I’ll let them know who he is. I’ll pray for him on his journey and for his future because it’s not an accident our paths have crossed so many times. He has a lot of talent, and I pray simply for peace and contentment. I think we all need that!
