PGA Seniors Haggs Castle
With us halfway through May and the summer not quite kicking in yet, the Seniors at Haggs Castle only had a limited field of 25.
The forecast had not been great and probably scared a few guys off, however it was good for catching up with some guys I hadn’t seen for a while before play.
Before I started, I was able to chat with a fellow retired pro about possibly attending our Outreach Event at Sandyhills.
He had expressed an interest a while back and although he wouldn’t be able to win any prizes, I would be happy to play with him and we could always mark another team’s card. He agreed to come along and I see that as a real positive.
My playing partners were older gents I’d never met from the East coast and the Central belt. As we made our way up the first, I was asked about my attachment which allowed me to explain my role and my faith.
This led to another conversation on the 3rd hole where my playing partner from the East asked a bit more about our events and what the main talks were about.
I got to explain that I always try to give everyone something to think about, especially when it concerns truth about the gospel and Jesus.
He seemed to be thoughtful despite not having a faith, but I got the impression he’d be open to coming to our ProAm. I planted the seed hoping he would make it in September.

My golf from tee to green has been decent over the past while but I’ve been really struggling with reading greens this past month and it’s not getting any better.
This cost me 3 shots on the front 9 and 2 shots for the back 9, and it’s undoing the good work I’ve done this year in other areas. The missed 4-footer on the 18th saw to it that I booked a putting lesson with a Pro who specialises in it. Needs must!
As we sat with a coffee after the round we discussed how long we’d been in the industry between us and the figure topped 100 years.
Lots of changes to the game this century, one of which is how far the ball is going and how certain courses have gone from being tour venues to just another parkland course.
Haggs has changed a bit but still a decent test of golf for the oldies. Remember the Glasgow Classic?
As we left for home, I swapped details with my colleague from the East and he will see if his availability allows him to attend in September. I hope it does.
