PGA Member Guest at Clydebank Golf Course

I’d not played Clydebank & District for over 20 years, but knew many of the holes were quirky to say the least. Dad and I were playing as a team as this was a PGA Member/Guest event run by one of my fellow Pros, and we were looking forward to seeing how well we could do as well as connect with our playing partners.

We were playing with a fellow Pro and his partner who I both knew from years before. They knew about LGMS and the Pro had attended our Logos ProAm at Archerfield back in 2018, so it was a promising start.
As it was a shotgun event, we spent a bit of time on our allocated tee before playing which allowed a good bit of catch up and meaningful chat. I knew my fellow Pro had a belief in a higher power from previous conversations, and after an explanation of our ProAm event in September, he was very enthusiastic about coming along with a team.
Really encouraging and I know this meeting was not coincidental.

As we played round, all of us really struggled with how tricky the course was.
Clydebank is not a long course, but has so many holes you need to hit the correct club off the tee.
We were caught out a few times, and in hindsight you could play this course better by keeping the driver in the bag. I could have saved myself about 4 shots had I done that! Dad really struggled with the sloped greens and despite not doing too much wrong we couldn’t score much better than even par for most of the day.
One under was the best we could do, and way off the placings.

There wasn’t much meaningful conversation on the course but I wasn’t overly concerned due to the valuable time I spent with the guys on the opening tee.
Being there for about 15 minutes before play consolidated everything and after we finished playing we also got the chance to share our details over soup and a sandwich. I am very hopeful to see the guys again in September and thankful for the reconnect.

As Dad and I left we chatted about the missed opportunities on the course but we reminded ourselves of the more important job at hand, and part of that was done today by encouraging others to come and hear the gospel truth at an LGMS event.
