Sandyhills Golf Club ProAm

Sandyhills Golf ProAm

It’s been a long time since I last played in a ProAm, and even longer since playing in the Sandyhills ProAm. I was invited by one of my fellow Pros and thought is was as good a place as any to meet people I didn’t know.

It was a shotgun start so the clubhouse was extremely busy, but this gave everyone the chance to sit with their teams for a bit and get to know them.
As I thought, I didn’t know any of the team, but they asked about my attachment to LGMS and this allowed me to explain to all of them while sitting round a table. There weren’t too many questions at the time but later on in the round that changed.

The weather was not great that morning, but we teed off at 1pm and this allowed for everything to clear. A bit sticky and humid but more pleasant than what we had earlier. I was amazed we were off at the 1st hole and not sure if my Dad had something to do with that being our home course. I took it gladly as it saved a long walk before and after.

We started well enough and played ok for the first 7 holes. In this format you really need to be making a birdie every other hole at least, and 2 under after 7 wasn’t low enough despite some good play.
It was during this point that one of my team asked me more about my work and the ministry. Over the next half dozen holes we chatted quite a bit about life, faith and work.
We covered the fact I’d ran away from my faith because I’d missed the point of it, but eventually realised the truth because of the evidence I was finally ready to look at.
We both agreed there is so much rubbish being pedalled as truth to our children these days and how important it is to stand against what is clearly false.
He shared how he and his family attend Chapel and that the kids really enjoy going which gives them some sort of moral base to work from. I hope and pray God can continue to work through parents to introduce their children to the truth of Jesus.

A score of 7 under was not close to the eventual fifteen under winner but we had a really nice day with each other and some significant conversations.
As we sat at dinner I was able to share of the LGMS ProAm at Falkirk which the guys seemed really interested in. I sent a copy of the poster to them and hopefully they’ll enter a team.
All we can do is share and let God do the rest.
He will have who he wants there regardless of numbers and it looks as though we’re going to have quite a few unchurched golfers there. Prayers up!
