BAD Pro-Am at Blairgowrie
on 28th September 2023
It’s been a challenging end of the season with some events I’ve planned to play in not happening due to weather, conflicting schedules or illness.
Sometimes it feels as though everything is working against you and it’s easy to feel hard done by.
I normally just keep going and get on with it but it’s been a struggle and I’ve required all of God’s support to keep at it.
After a long period of not getting much of an opportunity to play, Logos Golf Ministries Scotland supported the Battle Against Dementia ProAm at Blairgowrie on September 28th.
We felt it was important to try and support other helpful charities, and as many of my fellow Professionals would be there, I thought it might be a good chance to touch base with some of them.
Our team consisted of fellow Trustees and supporters of the ministry, and it was a good opportunity for us to catch up. We were due to play in a ProAm last year with the same team and it got called off at the last minute so it was nice to get the chance to do it again.
The Lansdowne is a tough championship course and there is very little room for error.
We struggled a bit early on but still managed to get it around reasonably well despite a few lost balls off the tree-lined fairways.
I spoke with one of our team regarding moving the ministry forward and he gave an interesting view of pursuing a chat room where individuals could ask questions anonymously if they so wished.
With the ever-increasing desire for remote working, this may afford an opportunity for more openings and could open the door for a virtual platform.
I still would like to go and meet people face to face over a coffee but this does give us food for thought and another possible avenue. It was encouraging.
Despite not scoring too well we did enjoy the course and the greens were probably the best I’d played on all year. I know if I get the time to play more my game is there, but with very little golf these past 2 months I can’t be too disappointed.
Before and during Dinner I got the chance to catch up with 2 of my fellow Pros and explained I’d like to come and meet up with them for a coffee soon.
They both seemed agreeable to the idea and I hope this can be the start of what I feel could be an important step with LGMS.
I spoke with my Dad about this and he also felt that this was a big part of what I was to do going forward. Just as we meet regularly for coffee and encourage one another he felt I was to do this for the Pros. Something to really pray about is that this can be done in the right way and start the flow!
We keep going,
