The Fourball event at Gullane No.2 course is the last winter event before the Spring and I was playing with one of my Pro colleagues who I’ve known for many years.
He has attended a few smaller Logos Golf Ministries events and knows of my faith but has never really accepted it. I simply try to be the best example and not force anything, but it can be difficult not to press the issue and come across in the wrong way.
On our journey, we did have a conversation about life in general and I was able to throw in how my trust is not just in myself, and one of the reasons I don’t worry as much as I used to. He doesn’t get that viewpoint and simply thinks it’s all up to us. I have to keep being available for when he eventually wants to enquire more.
LGMS at Fourball event Gullane No.2
At the tournament, our playing partners were older Pros who I knew, and one of them had played with me a couple of times before. He never had much interest in LGMS before and this didn’t change.
Over the round, there was no mention of my attachment and I had the feeling nobody in the group wanted to go there. This has maybe only happened once before but it was disappointing.
It’s hard enough to have a meaningful chat during the round at the best of times but I could tell this wasn’t going to happen.
We played ok and had a pleasant day’s golf, however I would have expected more to come from this. Disappointment is not easy, but no matter what the situation is there is always a learning experience, and this encourages me to keep trusting and have faith no matter how it looks.
One positive from the day was that I met a fellow Pro whom I’d not seen for almost 15 years. We worked together previously and exchanged numbers to keep in touch going forward. It will be good to catch up soon and go into more detail about where our lives are now. Who knows where that can go?
I suppose all we can do is trust.
We keep going,
