PGA 36 Hole Event at Cawder Golf Club

PGA 36 Hole Event at Cawder Golf Club, my first 36 Hole Event of this year was held at Cawder Golf Club situated just north of Glasgow. A course I’ve played many times and always a pleasant experience. With not much rain this past month it was fiery to say the least.

My first round paired me with two players I’ve known for many years and they are both aware of my affiliation to LGMS. Neither of them get too involved in that type of conversation so it was a slow day regarding any meaningful chat.
The golf was decent enough but it was incredibly difficult to judge where to land the ball with the ground being so hard and unpredictable.
By the time we reached the back nine it was really about not doing anything stupid and finishing off the round.

It’s disappointing not getting to talk much but you can’t force people into it when they have little interest. I was hoping the following day would yield more openness, but all we can do is show up and be available.

The second day paired me with two younger players who I’d never met before.
After making a really good birdie at the tough 2nd hole I got the chance to chat with the youngest player heading up the 3rd fairway. He didn’t have a faith as such but his parents have a Christian background.

I was able to share how I ran away from my faith when I was younger but finally confronted the evidence that convinced me of the truth. I was basically telling him not to do what I did for so long and keep it in mind. I think it was appreciated.

It was another warm and dry day and still very hard to judge the landing areas. We all turned in a similar score of 1 over but I could feel the swing going a little and it was hard to keep it on track.
As we walked down the 12th hole I got another opportunity to chat, but this time with my other playing partner. He asked about my attachment and this allowed me to explain my backstory and faith.
Again, he didn’t really believe in anything but said he would come to a future event if I was speaking at it just to get a different perspective.
I thought this was really positive and I will keep him in mind for future ProAms.

For the final 6 holes I switched off for 2 swings and they really cost me.
Overall, my scoring wasn’t too bad for most of the tournament but some bigger scores on a few holes left me really disappointed.
I’m on the right track but just not enough, however still encouraging.

I continue to pray for more time to spend on the course which can lead to more time with my fellow Pros.
The 1 to 1’s are going to be important in the year ahead with so many of the guys needing the right direction, and I know with God’s guidance I can help them see a different perspective.
Watering he seeds are the next step.

We keep going in faith,
