Prestwick St Nicholas PGA 4Ball

Prestwick st nicholas golf course

It’s been over a month since playing in a competitive event but it seemed even longer.
Not much you can do when events are cancelled due to weather but disappointing not to have been out there more at the tail end of the season.
Only 2 more events left on the calendar and the first of these was at Prestwick St. Nicholas in a PGA Fourball event.

My teammate has attended Logos events previously and our friendship has grown because of this. He knows the script with my faith, and despite not talking much about it he has supported me over the past couple of years which is something.
We were paired with 2 other Pros, one of whom I hadn’t seen in over 10 years.
It was good to meet up again after so long and before we teed off got the opportunity to share what LGMS was about.
He mentioned seeing the attachment over the years but never really got around to finding out about it.
He seemed pleasantly surprised but didn’t really dig much deeper. Most of the guys these days do not have a practising faith but it’s important to let them know you are there for them.

We got going in beautiful sunshine and the weather was a real bonus at this time of year. My teammate has been giving me some coaching recently and it’s helped quite a bit, especially with the long game.

Score so far

We really should have been quite a few under par by the turn but some putts just didn’t drop for us.
Despite this, we were fairly positive because our play was solid, and we were creating plenty of chances. It was also good that our playing partners were similar and this definitely helps to keep you pushing.

There wasn’t much in terms of in-depth conversation during the round but we were all enjoying our game together and the usual talk of golf, rising costs and football all cropped up at points.

Scoring going well

We all started scoring on the back 9, and towards the end of the round, we began to think more about our target score.
The boys were only a shot behind us most of the way in and this was despite us getting to 5 under with only 2 to play.
We wanted to get to 6 under at least and it looked likely after I had the chance of a 4-foot birdie on the 17th, but overcooked the subtle break.
The 18th is a tough 220 yd par 3 at the best of times but was playing back into the wind and making 3 seemed hard enough.
My teammate then proceeded to hit one of the best shots I’ve seen, a 2 iron to a foot. One of those shots that never moved off the pin and the perfect flight for the wind. We got to 6 under!

After a decent day’s play, it’s nice to round it off like that, and as we sat in the clubhouse over lunch another of my colleagues came over to say hello.
Another good supporter of the Logos Events and we have had some great conversations about faith this past year.

We made arrangements to meet up next month, off the course and I’ll look forward to that chat.
Before he left I congratulated him and his partner on winning the event as they were 2 shots ahead of us. Although this is the 2nd time I’ve finished runner-up to him in one of these events he deserves it and good player also!

One more event to go and with my teammate back with me next week at Craigielaw we’ll see if we can finish well.

Yours In Christ,
Vincent Brown, PGA Professional, LGMS Ambassador to the Tartan Tour
