Logos Golf Ministries Scotland at the Fourth Oldest Golf Club, Bruntsfield Links
The last Seniors event was a Stableford at The Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society in Edinburgh.
It’s the fourth oldest golf club in the world and a course I’ve played a few times.
It’s still hard to believe I’m playing in the over 50’s club and one of my Pro colleagues took a double take when he saw me walking up to the practice ground commenting that surely, I wasn’t that age just yet. Amusing but sadly true.
I knew both my playing partners but hadn’t played with one of them before.
It took us till the 3rd hole where he enquired about my attachment and I discovered he did not have any faith but appreciated doing good in life as my role as a foster carer came up in the conversation.
I managed to get in the fact of how important sharing the truth is with the ministry but I don’t think this was taken on board as anything religious wasn’t his thing.
A few holes later my other playing partner asked about how I was getting on with church and the ministry, as we had spoken briefly about that at a previous event.
We ended up having a positive conversation about different religions, believing in what’s true and recommending the movie ‘A Case for Christ’, the story of former atheist journalist, Lee Strobel, who became a believer. He said he would watch it and I felt he was open to believing the truth through evidence.
We’ll see where that goes.
As we played the back 9 in glorious sunshine the golf was to a reasonable standard and I felt my swing in good shape. It’s the first time in a long while I’ve been confident from tee to green and I finally think the changes I’ve made are paying off.
After a disappointing 3 putt on the last cost me a 2nd place finish, I was still buoyed by the progress and where my game is at just now.
It was an enjoyable day and we enjoyed playing with one another despite having differing opinions on various topics.
It’s important to respect each other and listen while offering evidence-based views, but the key is not to be too judgemental while trying to correct gently. After dinner, we all agreed to catch up at another senior’s event and we’ll see how things have progressed.
We keep going trusting everything is in God’s hands despite what we see or experience.
